Books are an essential part of our educational career throughout our life, from early school to university degrees. Even after completing university, we remain connected with books to learn something new to improve or entertain ourselves. But with the advancement in technologies, we have now invented new ways of learning that can be more reliable & informative than books. In this blog, we will discuss why books are not a great source of learning anymore & how our personalities are different in our learning styles. Here are the three questions that will be answered by this blog’s end.
- How are technological inventions replacing books?
- What are our other learning styles according to personality psychology?
- How can we know which learning style is best?
More than 10 million books are published annually in the USA alone & yes, millions of readers out there love to read books. But this blog is more about those people who always find difficulty in getting along with books & consuming information from them. So, if they think they are bad at books. Are they really bad or just different?
How Technology is shaping our learning styles?
Our history is embedded with just books for knowledge. For ages, we are connected with books for learning & entertaining ourselves. But in the present world, things are changed by technological advancements; kindle devices, audiobooks, book summaries, book discussions & lectures emerged as a replacement for books & they proved themselves very effective in terms of learning new things. From reading a book in 7 hours to reading or listening to a book summary in 15 minutes, we have often cut down our learning time in this busy world. But is it all? Can a 15-minute summary tell us as much as a complete book? Maybe not but 3 hours audiobook can. Multiple factors are involved in reading, like reading speed, understanding, etc.
With these technological advancements, human psychology has also found something new in our learning styles & here they are.
What are our other learning styles according to personality psychology?
Research by many renowned psychologists claims that humans are different in their learning styles & when you adopt the learning style that you naturally possess, you’re learning speed multiplies. So, what are these learning styles?
1-Visual:
The most common learning style is the visual encoding style. These people learn by watching videos, infographics, animations & other elements that are in the form of moving frames. Most of us are visual by learning; that’s why we prefer YouTube videos to understand concepts & Ideas. So, what do you think about the performance of a person who is visual in nature but learning by reading books? Terrible, I believe.
2-Auditory:
The second most common learning style is the Auditory learning style. It encodes memories when we listen to something. These are the best classroom learners who are very focused during lectures. They learn by listening, they might create imaginations, but they are good at grabbing audio memories.
3-Kinesthetic
Let’s talk about the rare geniuses. They are good at learning something by practising it. Research says most engineers, doctors & field job people are kinesthetic in nature. They learn by doing it. In most classrooms, few students are lab lovers. They love to be in the lab. They enjoy their time while doing things practically. Now think for a moment, how would they perform when they only learn from books that are not their natural source of learning?
So, these were the learning styles that differentiated us from other people. I know many people who were good at visual learning but were also good at auditory. How can this be possible?
How much adaptable are we in our learning styles?
Unlike other creatures, Humans are flexible in their personality traits. The lion can’t eat vegs & trees can’t bark, but humans can change a few things in them. They can be introverts & become extroverts at some event or maybe to impress their crush (I saw that). So, just like our other personality traits, we can also modify our learning styles.
We can be naturally visual but can be good in auditory by practice, but still, there will be a marginal difference in both of these outcomes. So, what should be done?
3-How can we know which learning style is best?
This test will tell you good you are in your learning style. We can have all three learning styles simultaneously but notice that we can only possess one dominant learning style at one time. So, why try to go the other way around?
Head over to the test link & learn your learning style, adopt it & win the world.
