“You don’t like going to social gatherings, am I right?”. I was not expecting this from a fortune teller whom I met once at a festival when I was young. I used to think that they may have some kind of superpower that they knew about us so much, but my perception changed when I studied the “Psychology of Body Language”. This blog is about “How Fortune Tellers Know So much about you” and here we are going to decode their understanding patterns.

The research provides evidence that fortune tellers use a technique called “Cold Reading.” This technique provides them with almost 80% accurate results while talking about people they have never met. Though it might feel like some magic, but it is science, and It is just a simple process of careful observation of body movements and some knowledge of statistics.

Cold reading is commonly used by tarot card readers, astrologists, palm readers, and psychics. You will be amazed to know that some psychics also think that they have some kind of superpowers as they are unaware of the science they are using.

This cold reading process leads them to a convincing performance embedded with the fact that most people have positive expectations from fortune tellers. And most fortune tellers are also females because females are exceptional in reading body language as compared to men. Research shows that women read body language 87% accurately, while men can decode only 42% of the whole context.

Let’s demonstrate this thing right away. Suppose you visit a psychic reading and he tells you something like this.

“I welcome you here and I am receiving some vibes from you that there is something that is causing trouble in you. I can also feel that sometimes you get depressed about your goals and feel unrealistic about them. There are times in your life when you are reserved and don’t want to talk with people. You want to be independent and want to enjoy your life at maximum potential. You want to be close to your relationships and share a deep understanding with them.

This is cold reading. This is about studying body language. If someone is introverted, a fortune teller will tell him that he is reserved and want deep relationships. If a person is open to a fortune teller, he will say that you want to be independent as a person who is open to experiences don’t like restrictions. The rest of the statements in the above case study are almost similar for all of us. We all feel inadequate at some time in our lives. We all want good relationships in our lives.
