How to make a great first Impression

How to make a great first Impression

We all have heard the phrase “First Impression is Last Impression,” which is so true. One of my teachers kept disliking me for over a year just because I was playing ludo with my fellows when he first entered the classroom. This Blog is about “How to make a great First Impression” with anyone so that you can succeed in your attempt.

In January 2016, I appeared in an army medical test for commission. Soon after I cleared medical, I was asked to prepare for an interview that would be held at 09 am on the following day. I got free at 5 pm and rushed to the market to buy a good suit for the Interview. Later I called one of my senior friends who was commissioned into the army last year. He gave me a few tips that I have added to the key points below. I learned a few of the following, and these techniques helped me a lot in my student and professional life. Oh yes, I passed that army test too.

Let’s head down to discuss the five-point agenda on “How to make a great first Impression” and win like a champion.

1-Dressing:

We all know how crucial dressing is for winning an interview. During my Interview, many of my fellow candidates appeared in formal dress while I was formal. When the results were announced, all passed candidates had different backgrounds, education levels, heights, IQs, and medical results but they had one thing In common: formal dressing.

I will say “When I Rome, Be Like Romans.” If you are going for an interview, be professional in looking. Others form 90% of their opinion about you in the first four minutes of interaction, and 60-80% of their analysis comes from your non-verbal channel where your dressing contributes significantly.

Search for your interviewee, and find his/her pictures. He will love to see you in a formal dress if he is wearing formal. If he is not, try dressing that makes you feel dressing. In the Psychology of dressing, there is a term called “Power Dressing” which gives you a “Power Look.” Find your Power look in which you look confident. Carry yourself confident and assertive. It was the 1/6 things on “How to make a great First Impression.”

2-Entry

Suppose you are about to enter the Interview room; this is when you will make your Impact. Your first 5 seconds will define how you will be treated in this interview. I will suggest you not make it complicated. Go in with a smile and confidence. It was the 2/6 things on “How to make a great First Impression.”

3-Handshake

Head close to your seat. Put down your briefcase or anything you are holding. Say Hello, and have a firm handshake. Let the other person decide when to end the handshake. Take permission before sitting. Sit with your back straight and have eye contact while answering. It was the 3/6 things on “How to make a great First Impression.”

4-Gestures:

People who are relaxed and calm and have firm control over their emotions use precise and deliberate movements. Mirror the other person’s movements. It will increase your likeability. It was the 4/6 things on “How to make a great First Impression.”

5-Personality Preferences:

If you are talking to an Introvert, he will prefer concise, profound and to-the-point answers. If you are talking to an extrovert, he will go for brief and lengthy answers. Learn about personality preferences and rock the Interview. It was the 5/6 things on “How to make a great First Impression.”

6-Exit:

Pick your things calmly and deliberately. Say goodbye and turn back toward the door. Don’t look back unless asked. Close the door and leave after greeting the receptionist. It was the 6/6 things on “How to make a great First Impression.”

Comment on your way of making a great first impression and let the readers know your view.
