If a goal is worth having, it’s worth blocking out the time in your day-to-day life necessary to achieve it.”
Jill Koeng
There is a famous story of a traveler. when he arrived at an intersection, he met an old man who was resting under a tree. The passenger asked the older where these roads lead. The old man asked, “Where do you want to go?” The traveler said “nowhere”. Then the old man replied, “Then you can take any road. It doesn’t matter”. In this blog, we are going to discuss “How to Set Academic Goals” and How we can achieve good grades in our school, collage, or university.
According to one research, only 3% of people worldwide set goals & 1% of them become successful. Here the question arises that why people do not set their goals. In our society, there is an abundance of desires instead of purpose. If your desires are worked with diligence and determination, then those desires become goals. In our society, behaviors such as fear of failure, low self-esteem, inexperience, and ignorance of the importance of goal setting are often found. Which is always a hindrance to success. Along with all these reasons, another important factor is that people find it difficult to set goals because people are also unaware of the tools & techniques of goal setting.
You have often seen that people are unable to set goals correctly. For example, when I ask someone about the purpose of his life, I get to hear something similar
- Make Money.
- Success.
- Achieve happiness.
- Serve humanity.
- To get fame.
If we carefully study these few answers, we will know that these are mere aspirations because they do not meet the goal scale.
What is a goal scale?
The goal should always be SMART
In today’s era, people prefer smart work more to hard work, so it’s important for you to be smart about your goals.
S-Specific
M-Measurable
A-Attainable
R-Relevant
T-Time Bound
1. Specific
I actually wish when I say that I want to get good marks in the exam but when I say to them that I want to get 85% marks in the exam, now it has become my specific goal, and now I will work hard to achieve 85%.
2. Measurable
Your goal must be measurable. For example, if I say that I want to lose weight, it is my desire but if I say that I want to lose twenty pounds this month, that is my goal. Which can be measured on a regular basis.
3. Attainable
Your purpose should not be big enough to create a sense of uncertainty inside you. Remember that purpose will always force you to act, not frustrate you. Keep your goal to the extent that it is difficult to reach but possible.
4. Realistic
The goal is to make your real & understandable dreams come true. Otherwise, you will soon become frustrated. As you set your goal that you will score 100% in this exam then this is not quite your real goal. So, make the goals realistic to the extent that it is possible to reach them.
5. Time-bound
When writing down your goals, you must also write down the time to complete them. Setting a deadline is very important for any purpose. Setting deadlines engages you in the pursuit of your goal, focusing all your attention on it. So, when setting a goal, be sure to write down its deadline so that you can feel yourself moving toward the goal.
