There has been so much discussion on slow reading and fast reading. Both these left wings and right-wing people propagate their perspectives very well among the readers aiming to make the process of reading more effective. But here is the new induction in the reading methods: Bionic reading. This blog is about bionic reading, and here is how books can be finished in half of the required time.
Explaining Slow Reading:
I am a slow reader; I enjoy being with the book, and I enjoy reading the content of the book. I am never in a hurry to reach the final chapter unless the book is incredibly dull. Slow reading is all about spending quality time with the book to get the most out of it. It’s about reading, re-reading, highlighting and imagining the things that you are currently reading.
Explaining Fast reading
I know some people who read 100 books a year. I even know some authors who claim to read 25000 books in the last 20 years. That is so much for a person like me, who hardly finished 33 books last year. It will roughly take me 850 years to read that much. Fast readers advocate speed. They believe that book is all about the content, so skim faster and read more to read more books and gain more knowledge. On the contrary, slow readers believe that we have limited memory and we should focus on enjoying the book more.
As far as I have seen, fictional readers could be faster readers. They enjoy the characters, plot, dialogues and process whereas non-fiction readers are fast readers. They tend to find action plans, points, tables, data, dates, stories, case studies, etc. They don’t believe in reading everything in the book. They just read through skimming.
Explaining Bionic Reading:
If you think that the bionic reading will be some kind of balance between the slow and fast reading, then maybe it’s not how it is. Let me show you how it is done.
Bionic reading is a new induction in reading sciences. It is the in–depth reading style as compared to fast reading, which is relatively shallow. It is about facilitating the reader with the help of a guiding process for the eyes through the texts of the content with some fixation points that are artificially fixed in the content. This results in focusing on the highlighted initial letters, which makes the brain complete the words. Bionic reading encourages in-depth reading and understanding of the content.
How to apply this technique:
Honestly, this technique is not yet common in the writing community; that’s why we don’t have so many books writing in this style. As the writing community starts writing in this style, they will grab more readers, and readers will grab more content.
